Real film fun

Members of the Seaford Cinema projection team were delighted to be given a tour of the projection room at the Duke of York’s cinema in Brighton today.

In addition to all the modern digital equipment the Duke’s has something that is becoming an increasing rarity in cinemas – a 35mm film projector, currently being used for all showings of Inherent Vice.

Watching real film, with its dark tonality, saturated colour, bumps and scratches, is really the film equivalent of listening to vinyl records. It’s a reminder of a long history of film, which is now fast disappearing but hopefully will be preserved at independents like the Duke’s.
