Changes in publicity roles as of January 2017

Just to complete the picture of recent changes in the committee, Sophie McCallum decided at the beginning of January to step down as Press, Publicity and Marketing Manager at what felt like the right time for her, at a point when the cinema is thriving and financially secure. All the voluntary committee roles require a great deal of hard work and commitment and Sophie has given her time generously to the requirements of a demanding role. We are sad to see her go but wish her well in her professional ventures. A few last words from Sophie:

‘When I moved to Seaford, I was delighted to discover we had our very own cinema and volunteering was a great way to get involved in the community and meet people. It was a really interesting role, researching the films to put together the publicity materials and connecting with all our supporters and members on Facebook. During that time, I’ve also been setting up my own business as a yoga teacher and massage therapist, which I’m pleased to say has taken off and this means that I’ll now be focusing my energy on keeping that up and running. However, I’ll still be popping into the cinema to say hello and catch a film of a Friday night.’

Andrea Hargreaves has now taken over as Publicity Manager and her wide experience of print media, from reporting to production to feature writing, is already serving the cinema well. Andrea has edited seven local newspapers and her recent work has appeared in Sussex Life and the Guardian, so we are truly blessed to find such an ace successor to Sophie.

While Adele Walshe has now taken on the role of Technical Manager from one of the founding members, Ian Cairns, she continues to daily manage the website and Facebook page. Handing the writing of the monthly newsletter – a responsibility Adele shared with Sophie – over to Cathy Stewart may therefore come as something of a relief to such an extremely busy person, though we know she would never say! Cathy has also restarted the cinema Twitter feed which now provides lively and diverse updates on all things cinematic, plus she generally provides an extra pair of hands in publicity matters.
